Virtual Sessions Provide Interactive Forum Bringing Amateur and Professional Astronomers Together
FOLSOM, Calif., July 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association of Lunar & Planetary Observers (ALPO) is pleased to invite astronomers worldwide to the association's upcoming annual conference on Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26.
The conference is free and open to all, and offers programs of interest to beginner, amateur, and professional astronomers alike. In addition to presentations by ALPO members over these two days, the featured keynote speaker on Saturday evening will be Dr. Paul M. Sutter, astrophysicist, science educator, and host of the enlightening and entertaining "Ask a Spaceman" podcasts. Dr. Sutter earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physics from California Polytechnic State University in 2005 and his PhD in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011.
Dr. Sutter's ALPO keynote will take place on Saturday, July 26 beginning at 7:30 pm ET (4:30 pm PT), and addresses life forms that may exist in the outer reaches of our own solar system, or on planets orbiting other stars. It will also consider questions about what life needs to succeed, and why life has not yet been detected beyond Earth.
Conference and Saturday evening award/keynote presentation times will be:
- Friday, July 25 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET (10:00 am to 2:00 pm PT)
- Saturday, July 26 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET (10:00 am to 2:00 pm PT)
- Saturday, July 26 evening program begins at 7:00 pm (4:00 pm PT)
Separate Zoom meeting hyperlinks will be available to access presentations on each of the two days of the conference and for the Saturday evening programs. Individuals wishing to attend via Zoom should contact ALPO associate director Tim Robertson at [email protected] before July 22. Links will be e-mailed in advance to those who wish to receive them on Thursday, July 24. The Zoom virtual online 'meeting room' will open 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each day's activities.
