Groundbreaking Multicenter MAMMO.IQ study demonstrates Densitas intelliMammo® plays a vital role in quantifying and identifying unmet positioning quality criteria.

HALIFAX, NS, July 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ - Results of a groundbreaking multicenter study involving 126,367 mammograms show that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to evaluate mammography positioning on digital screening mammograms provides mammography positioning quality (MPQ) tracking at scale that reveals persistent unmet MPQ criteria across two major U.S. health systems.

Published in the Journal of Breast Imaging, the key findings of the study were based on the analysis of 553,339 mammographic images utilizing Densitas' IntelliMammo AI algorithms. The study uncovered consistent positioning challenges across health systems, including insufficient visualization of critical breast tissue on mammograms.

Key findings of the study, "Artificial Intelligence for Assessment of Digital Mammography Positioning Reveals Persistent Challenges" include:

AI Pinpoints Positioning Gaps in Mammography: AI can scan mammograms, flagging where breast–positioning falls short and measuring how often it happens, both overall and for each positioning criterion.

Objective Benchmarking Across Sites and Staff: Because AI assigns a numeric score to every unmet positioning criterion on every mammogram taken, health systems can compare quality between hospitals, individual imaging centers, and even radiological technologists, spotlighting where extra training or support is needed.

Data–Driven Quality Improvement for Earlier Cancer Detection: Actionable AI reports give imaging leaders the evidence they need to correct positioning errors, raise the overall quality of screening programs, and ultimately detect cancers earlier through continuous, targeted quality–improvement efforts.

"Positioning has long been the key factor impacting mammography image quality," said co-author Dr. Georgia Spear, Chief of Breast Imaging, Northwestern Medicine. "AI provides the opportunity to design on-demand quality control on every mammogram for every woman so that all women receive the best possible mammography quality."

Maintaining high standards in mammography positioning is critical as inadequate positioning can significantly reduce the sensitivity of mammography and can lead to missed cancer diagnoses. By standardizing the measurement of unmet MPQ criteria, Densitas' IntelliMammo® provides actionable, evidence-based insights to guide targeted technologist training and continuous quality improvement initiatives, and systematically improve quality control processes

Densitas continues to set the standard for mammography quality assurance, offering AI-driven solutions that empower healthcare providers to optimize operational efficiencies, regulatory compliance, screening workflows, and patient outcomes.
