Invisible Wounds Foundation Appoints Internationally Renowned TBI Expert as Its Chief Medical Scientist

CHICAGO, July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Invisible Wounds Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. James P. Kelly, MA, MD, FAAN, FANA, as its inaugural Chief Medical Scientist. As one of the leading international experts on traumatic brain injury, Dr. Kelly brings decades of pioneering leadership in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of traumatic brain injury (TBI), particularly in military and veteran populations. He will guide the Foundation's medical research priorities and scientific direction.
Dr. Kelly was the founding Director of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and served as Founding Executive Director of the Marcus Institute for Brain Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He has held leadership roles across academia, the Military Health System, the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as testified before Congress, advised the Pentagon, and contributed to major advancements in brain injury science.

He earned his BA in Psychology and MA in Clinical Psychology from Western Michigan University, his MD from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and completed his residency in Neurology and fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
