APF Direct Action Crisis Funding supports activities to address immediate needs following cancellation of grant funding for psychological research.
WASHINGTON, July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Psychological Foundation (APF), a grantmaking organization that supports psychologists and service organizations, is announcing its new Direct Action Crisis Funding Grants. This program supports activities to address immediate needs following cancellation of funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). Funded activities may include completing a wave of data collection, analyzing already collected data or writing, thoughtful project closure with community partners, or preparing grant proposals to continue the research.
"Recent federal funding cuts to the psychological research community are fundamentally anti-scientific," said APF CEO Dr. Michelle Quist Ryder. "Investing in psychological science is essential for a healthier, more informed, more resilient society, and APF's Direct Action Crisis Funding aims to offset the abrupt loss of financial support for this critical research."
APF prioritizes people and their wellbeing by investing in psychological research and its application. From LGBTQIA+ issues to antisemitism and bigotry, APF is offering grants of up to $20,000 to doctoral level graduate students and early career psychologists per quarter, totalling $200,000 for the remainder of 2025. Projects must be psychological in nature and have had a grant recently terminated or canceled from NSF or NIH.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, with quarterly evaluation deadlines for review and awarding of funds. The first deadline for review is September 22, 2025. Visit ampsychfdn.org/funding/dacf for more details.
